All of our work is a collaboration between client and artist. Each client approaches this process differently. Some people arrive with very specific ideas or photos of an actual piece for departure from. While other’s may have no idea of the form or style they prefer. Through shared wood samples, finish samples, and prepared drawings your piece evolves. Occasionally a model mockup is prepared so that the piece can be site tested for scale. We may at times have designs ready for sale.
Each of the items on our web site is offered as shown and also with options in wood selection, hardware and scale. These pieces were created to fill a client’s needs and to embellish their lives with a reflection of their personality as only a customized work can do.
Through years of close relationships with a few top suppliers of fine furniture grade hardwoods, we are able to source material of unusually high quality that is responsibly harvested through “sustained yield” methods and often FSC certified. These are small producers who know intimately where their logs come from.
This superb and often unique material can include outrageous figure, color, and width giving each finished piece added value and character.
We pride ourselves in the integrity of our construction methods that rely on time tested traditional joinery insuring the longevity of all our furniture. Cases and drawers are dovetailed, frames use the mortis and tenon joint, and wood movement is allowed for unlike many antiques.
We offer two standard finishes, an oil and wax that yields a soft craftman’s touch, and a high style, more labor intensive, varnish. Both are all hand rubbed and completely non toxic through the use of natural and organic European oils with zero VOCs.
We have enjoyed exploring the creative process with our clients for over 30 years and welcome your ideas.
